Submit a Prayer Concern

Dear Ones:

Sunday, May 11 th is Pentecost Sunday. We on the staff are also aware that it is Mother’s Day.

I would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to God for those who have nurtured us all and to celebrate the gift we have received, not only from those who gave us birth, but for all those who have exercised a parental role in our lives. Bless you all.

In worship on Sunday, the focus of our service will be on the coming of the Holy Spirit as the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to his disciples. In Luke 24 Jesus had ordered his disciples to stay in Jerusalem “…until you have been clothed with power from on high…” The disciples had no real idea what that would mean, and I don’t think anyone was more surprised than they at the effectiveness of the preaching on the Day of Pentecost. Timid disciples became passionate communicators of God’s grace and redeeming power and on that very day 3,000 persons were added to the Church.

Pentecost Sunday we celebrate the birth of the Church and we will pray for a renewal of the promise of “the power from on high” so that we may become agents of transformation just as the disciples became.

As part of our Pentecost Service this week, we will be commissioning Abraham Leuth as he leaves us for Southern Sudan. Abraham will be spending three months working with our school there. Please keep him in your prayers.

Affectionately,

Bill
