Chancel Choir Welcomes New Members
Our Door is Always Open...Come on in!
"When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride,
It is as though the whole creation cried, 'Alleluia'.
How often, making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound
As music moves us to a more profound 'Alleluia'."
Fred Prate Green
The Chancel Choir welcomes all who find joy in glorifying and serving God through the gift of music, and sharing that gift with the congregation of Hudson Memorial and each other. All that is required to join is a basic ability to read music, match pitch and a commitment to regular rehearsals, held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9 p.m. No audition is required.
This dedicated group of singers seeks to encourage an appreciation for sacred music as an integral part of our worship. The choir sings a wide variety of works - from the earliest musical expressions of our common faith to more recent compositions, from the classical writings of our church fathers to spirituals and folk tunes. Our music weaves a thread of tradition that stands as a testament to our faith and unites us with Christians in every age and in every place.
In addition to helping to lead worship during the traditional Sunday morning service, the choir offers special musical presentations throughout the liturgical year, often accompanied by chamber orchestra. These include cantatas during Advent and Lent, and the annual Christmas Joy Gift program. Additional "special" music is also presented on Pentecost Sunday and Reformation Sunday, the latter in conjunction with observance of the anniversary of the founding of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church. A guest instrumentalist(s) - a member of the North Carolina Symphony or other accomplished musician - normally accompanies the choir in leading worship monthly. Volunteer small ensembles also regularly provide music for a variety of church sponsored events, such as the annual North Raleigh Community Thanksgiving Service and the Capitol Towers Thanksgiving service.
DON'T LET OUR ROBES FOOL YOU
In addition to being gifted musicians, the Chancel Choir is also a close-knit, fun-loving and caring group of people. While dedicated to enhancing our worship through music, we also enjoy sharing God's love and joy with each other.
While we are always pleased to welcome newcomers at any time of the year, the Chancel Choir makes a concerted effort in early September to enlist new singers, with a Recruitment Dinner and Kick-Off to the new year. Prospective members are invited to join Choir members and their families for an evening of fun, food, and fellowship and of course, music.
Just for fun, the Chancel Choir also gets together for purely social events, including annual Spring Pot Luck dinner parties and Christmas dinner parties. We've even been known to do Karaoke parties!
INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING?
If you are interested in singing in the Chancel Choir, please contact Director of Music Ministries, Philip Hayden or visit one of our weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals at 7:30 p.m. in Room 221. We welcome singers whose schedules allow them to participate for one of the cantatas or other "special music," but not to participate on a continuing basis.
