12.19 Advent Devotional

Angels, From the Realms of Glory

Angels, from the realms of glory,
wing your flight o’er all the earth;
you, who sang creation’s story,
now proclaim Messiah’s birth:
come and worship, come and worship,
worship Christ, the newborn king!

Scripture - Jeremiah 31:31-34

The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband,[a] says the Lord. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, “Know the Lord,” for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.

Devotion - Christmas Cookies

Time to make the cookies! As I gather our favorite Christmas cookie recipes I remember those who shared their favorites with me.  With each batch of cookies made I recall cherished memories as they enrich my holiday.

Baking with my Mom remains a most precious Christmas gift. It’s with love that I forward this gift!  This gift of baking together has become a beautiful multi-generational gift shared with my daughter, son and their children.  As we mix, bake and decorate we exchange our favorite Christmas stories while enjoying our favorite cookie.  God is baking with us, binding together each generation, filling each heart with His joy and each soul with His peace.

Glorious Christmas music embraces the warm and fragrant kitchen filling us with the warmth of the Christmas spirit.  How abundantly blessed we are for this “beloved” Christmas gift. Abundance is the delicious smell of fresh baked Christmas cookies. I am reminded, “You will have joy and gladness and many will rejoice at His birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord”.  (Luke 1:14-15)

Many of us find that an intentional practice is important as part of our Advent reflections and you may want to consider this one. The Hunger Action Team suggests you set aside one food item or a small amount of money each day to stock the Food Pantry at North Raleigh Ministries. Click here for more information.

Beginning April 18th, we will begin having worship in the Sanctuary, alternating weeks with outdoor worship.  We will continue to have worship services available online. Presently our church building is closed.  We will give appropriate notice when our building opens again for various group activities.  Thank you for your understanding and patience. Worship, educational groups and other activities continue to happen virtually. The building is closed, but the church is open.

We welcome your request to be added to our Prayer list.  You may click here to submit a request electronically, or you may call 919-787-1086 and press 2 for the Deacon's Prayer Line.
