12.6 Advent Devotional

O Come, O Come Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to thee, O Israel.

Scripture - Genesis 12:1-2

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

Devotion - God's Call to Abram

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.  I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

God gave the call to Abram.  He told him to leave where he lived and go to a new country.  Similar to me being new to Brookdale.  Abram was to leave his Fathers household and his people.  I left my household, my neighbors I had lived with for 59 years.  All the beautiful things my husband had made in all corners of my home – cabinets, desks, flooring, bookcases, closets and decorations of all sorts.  The people here at Brookdale are new, plus new rules and regulations.

God told Abram he will show him the land where he is going.  The Lord said he will make Abram a great nation, make his name great so that Abram will be a blessing.

If I, too, listen to God he will continue to bless my family and I, my new neighbors and give us peace and understanding in our new home, even in the middle of this pandemic.

Joy to  the world!

Many of us find that an intentional practice is important as part of our Advent reflections and you may want to consider this one. The Hunger Action Team suggests you set aside one food item or a small amount of money each day to stock the Food Pantry at North Raleigh Ministries. Click here for more information.

SUNDAY SCHEDULE

Beginning April 18th, we will begin having worship in the Sanctuary, alternating weeks with outdoor worship.  We will continue to have worship services available online. Presently our church building is closed.  We will give appropriate notice when our building opens again for various group activities.  Thank you for your understanding and patience. Worship, educational groups and other activities continue to happen virtually. The building is closed, but the church is open.
