In the Shadow of the Empty Cross: A Gathering for Reflection, Conversation and Remembrance
Saturday, April 16, 2016, 9 am - Noon
Debbie Kirk, Associate Pastor says, “blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted and our Brief Statement of Faith declares that “in life and death we belong to God”.
Perhaps at no time do these words mean more than when we are grieving. In the Easter season, the HMPC Deacons are offering a workshop for those who are grieving the loss of loved ones, which may be recent and/or years ago, and for those of us who are supporting family and friends who are grieving.
In our time together we will consider what our faith tradition affirms about the theological aspects of death and dying; reflect on how grief can be life affirming; discuss the rituals of the church that offer us comfort and support; and celebrate our loved ones with a time of remembrance. There will be the opportunity to remember through various activities you may choose to do, including walking our outdoor labyrinth.
This workshop is part of the ministry of the Deacons as they support members through all the seasons of our lives. We invite you to attend and bring family members and friends as well; please register below or by calling the church office so that we can plan for materials and refreshments.
