Children in Worship
We believe that Jesus clearly encourages children to come to Him and worship. We enthusiastically welcome all children to worship! Partway through the service, children will be invited to gather at the front of the Sanctuary for the Time with Children. They’ll sit on the steps during an interactive message.
During Worship children are invited to participate in Sunday School Education after the Children’s Message. Before the service starts, please make sure your child has been signed in at the back of the church in the narthex and has gotten a lanyard designating which age group they are in in order to leave with their leaders.
Children ages 3–5 will go with the Pre-Elementary group.
Children in grades 1–4 will go with the Elementary group.
Children in grade 5 should sit with their parents
At the end of the service, the children will return to the Sanctuary and wait in a pew near the children’s worship area to be checked out. For the safety of our children and to keep this process as easy and unobtrusive to the service as possible, we ask that you please follow these guidelines.
Children’s Worship Area
2nd grade and younger
If your children are not participating in Sunday school, feel free to utilize the children’s worship area which is open following the children’s message. Sit nearby and assist them as needed.
On Communion Sundays
Children participating in the Sacrament can be checked out early from Sunday School in Geneva Hall or kept with parents in the Sanctuary.
Parents who are members of HMPC are encouraged to have their children baptized as a sign of their commitment to raise children in the church and as an opportunity for the congregation to pledge their support to the family. Dates for baptisms are scheduled throughout the year and members may sign up by completing the baptism request form available in the main hallway and the on the web site at www.hmpc.org.
Baptized children may participate in the Lord’s Supper (Communion or Eucharist) at the discretion of their parents. The table is about welcoming and grace, which is something the children experience as they share in the sacred meal of the Christian community.
A Communion Education Class is offered each fall and spring for children (age 4 and up) and their parents. Hosted by the Children’s Committee, and led by Debbie Kirk, the class is ideal for children who have not yet participated in Communion, as well as those who want to learn more about it. Classes will be publicized in various church media. Registration is available prior to each class.
