Your First Visit to HMPC
Most people have a few questions about their first visit to a church. In this section, we try to anticipate some of those questions so you can feel comfortable when you visit!
Where to Park
There are three sides to our parking lot. The Cranbrook side- accessible from Cranbrook drive; the Westminster side- accessible directly from Six Forks Road, and the spaces behind the middle of the building. The Sanctuary (where we worship) is most easily reached from the Cranbrook side. From that side, you can walk along the church sidewalk toward Six Forks Road to access the sanctuary, or you can walk in the church office entrance and greeters will direct you to the sanctuary just around the corner. Infant and toddler childcare is most easily reached from the Westminster side of the parking lot.
At each entrance to the church, you’ll find Greeters and members of the Welcome Team ready to welcome you to worship or guide you to other parts of the campus. You will receive an order of worship to help guide you through the service. Please do not hesitate to ask the greeters for any assistance you might need, such as finding childcare or addressing other needs you might have.
Children In Worship
We believe that Jesus clearly encourages children to come to Him and worship. We enthusiastically welcome all children to worship! Partway through the service, children will be invited to gather at the front of the Sanctuary for the Time with Children.
They’ll sit on the steps during an interactive message.
Childrens bulletins and crayons are available at all doors for younger and older children. Immediately following the “Time for Children,” children kindergarten age and younger may leave the sanctuary for “Extended Session” in the Preschool Wing to the right of the sanctuary.
On the third Sunday of the month, children K-5 are invited to join church member Pat Balletta for worship education in Room 225. There are sessions on Baptism and Communion, Advent, Easter, Lent and Christmas, proper names for things found in the sanctuary, helpers in worship, and different types of prayer and music. There are group discussions and written activities such as word searches, coloring sheets, word matches, etc. A snack is also served.
Nursery & Toddler Care
Nursery care is available from 9:15 am until 11:45 am. Extended care for children ages two though five is also available following the Children’s Time in the worship service. The Nursery is located down the hall from the sanctuary near our fellowship hall. It is staffed with nurturing and loving childcare workers. We are committed to providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for children while their parents worship and learn.
Where to Sit
Feel free to sit anywhere in the Sanctuary. There are bibles and hymnals located in the pew racks in front of you. Sometime during the worship service, a friendship pad will be passed down your row. Please take a moment to fill out the information so that we may be in contact with you later in the week.
You Will Not Be Embarrassed
When you visit Hudson Memorial, you will be our respected and welcome guest. You will not be singled out in an embarrassing way, nor asked to stand before the congregation nor to come forward. You will worship God with us.
The Passing of the Peace
When the pastor shares the peace of Christ and invites others to do the same (the”passing of the peace”) everyone spends a moment greeting those around them. Typical greetings include: “Peace,” “Peace be with you,” or “Christ’s peace.”
Hudson celebrates Communion in different ways. If you are attending worship the first Sunday of the month, Communion will be served. Everyone who is baptized is welcome to receive Communion.
There will be a pastor at each exit from the church, and they look forward to the opportunity to meet you. Please introduce yourself and mention that you are a newcomer. There is a fellowship time with lemonade and snacks following the worship hour. Fellowship time will be on the front patio (weather permitting) or in the Westminster Hall. Please join the congregation as we gather!
